Shoulder fractures refer to fractures in the bones in the shoulder area and usually occur as a result of trauma. The shoulder has a complex structure as a compound joint, the most mobile joint of the body, and therefore fractures can occur in various ways. Shoulder fractures can occur on the shoulder bones clavicle (key bone), scapula (shoulder blade) and humerus (upper arm bone).
The most common causes of shoulder fractures may be the following:
1. **Falls:** Shoulder fractures can occur especially as a result of falling from a height.
2. **Traumatic Accidents:** Shoulder fractures can occur as a result of traumatic events such as bicycle accidents, car accidents or sports injuries.
Shoulder fractures may show different symptoms and treatment requirements according to their types. The most common types of shoulder fractures are:
1. **Clavicle Fracture:** Clavicle (key bone) fractures occur on the upper side of the shoulder and usually occur as a result of a fall. Such fractures can cause shoulder pain, swelling and limitation of movement.
2. **Humerus Fracture:** Fractures of the humerus (upper arm bone) can occur near the shoulder joint or far from the shoulder joint. These fractures can cause severe pain, bruising and limitation of movement.
3. **Scapula Fracture:** Although scapula (shoulder blade) fractures are less common, they can have serious consequences. These fractures usually occur as a result of high-energy trauma and can cause pain and limitations in shoulder movements.
